Tamara trained as a dentist at Bristol University and graduated in 1993.
She was awarded her Fellowship in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1999 and has been a registered specialist in oral surgery since 2000. She has enjoyed an interesting and varied career working in dental practices, community dentistry and hospital specialist services, including a year working overseas in the oral surgery department of Sydney Dental Hospital in 2001.
Since her return to the UK, Tamara has worked as a specialist oral surgeon at Bristol Dental Hospital and School and has many years of surgical experience. This includes performing complex extractions, in particular impacted wisdom teeth, managing medically complex/compromised patients and providing surgical care as part of an orthodontic treatment plan.
She is an honorary senior clinical lecturer and teaches local anaesthesia, oral surgery, and conscious sedation at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and skills to train others. She has also obtained postgraduate qualifications in conscious sedation and teaching and learning for healthcare professionals and is currently working towards a master’s degree.
Tamara always takes time to discuss all relevant aspects of care with her patients. This could be in the form of a consultation immediately prior to treatment or an earlier in-person or telephone consultation appointment, depending on the particular patient’s needs. Timely, specialist care for patients who would otherwise be referred to the hospital can be provided. Tamara’s work for Cathedral Close includes simple or complex dental extractions, including impacted wisdom teeth.
She also welcomes referrals for oral surgery as part of an orthodontic treatment plan, including tooth extractions and canine exposures for adult or younger patients who can manage treatment fully awake under local anaesthetic. She understands that for most people, having a tooth extracted can be a daunting prospect.
Her aim is to make procedures as easy as possible for her patients, treating them with compassion, care, and great skill.
